Laboratory Animal Unit (LAU)
Laboratory Animal Unit (LAU)is a common service platform for providing the top quality laboratory animals and overseeing the care and management of animals used in research and teaching in Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH). All the LAU’s animal care and use programsareaccredited by the Medical EthicsCommittee(MEC) and IACUC of PKUPH.
The LAU staff is composed of laboratory animal caretakers, technicians, veterinarian, and researcher with specialty training and certifications specific to laboratory animal care, use and medicine. LAUemployees collaborates with investigators to meet their research needs by providing a full-spectrum of animal care and related services including animal acquisition and disposition, veterinary medical care, consulting, animal health management, technical, training and research supports.
Animal Orders and Research Diet Orders
Animal orders may be placed online following MEC and IACUC approval. Research diet orders can be placed online to communicate special needs to the LAU staff.
Husbandry Services
Animal care is provided 365 days per year to assure the health and well-being of the animals. Our standard operating procedures have developed over the years to assure consistent, reliable care in accordance with nationallaws and regulations, and to meet the national standards.
Research and Technical Services
A variety of research and technical services are available to assist in the successful completion of your project. This includes sample administration, sample collection, surgical support, post-operative care, experimental design, animal model selection, and protocol development.
Veterinary Services
LAU veterinary staff provides the support to maintain the health and well-being of research animals. This includes clinical case management, surgical and anesthesia support, emergency response,animal euthanasiaand laboratory animal user training.
Training
LAU provides training to investigators, their staff and students in the proper handling and restraint of laboratory animals, such as mice, rats and rabbits, as well as biomethods including blood collection techniques, injection techniques, oral gavage, surgery and necropsy.
