Overview
The PKUPH Department of Radiology has developed nearly a century; it has become a digital and modern integrated department, and provides all aspects of image inspection and treatment, including X-ray, CT, MRI, PET and intervention.
The PKUPH Department of Radiology currently has 110 employees, including 40 doctors, 57 technical staff, 13 nurses, each year, the PKUPH Department of Radiology performs more than 486,000 imaging examinations and 1200 interventional procedures.The department ranks as one of the leading radiological academic centers in China as well as one of the busiest clinical departments in Beijing. All images, including chest X-rays and other plain films, are acquired, read and archived digitally. Furthermore, the department has played—and continues to play—a key role in advancing the state of the art in imaging technologies.
Brief History
With roots dating back to 1940s, which was during the WWII, and the creation of one of the first X-ray images in China, the PKUPH Department of Radiology boasts a long history of high-quality imaging diagnosis and patient care. Prof. XIE Zhi-guang became the early director of the department and he later became the first President of Chinese Society of Radiology.

Residency Training Center
As the Residency Training Center for Radiology in Beijing Area since 2007, the PKUPH Department of Radiology has accepted 20 radiology resident candidates from Beijing area. The residency training program has a 3-year training plan, which includes basic radiology/plain x-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and Interventional.
Radiology Informatics
Radiology Informatics program was started in early 1990s. Radiology Informatics supports the daily operations of the PKUPH Department of Radiology by ensuring that patient images and clinical information are available to physicians when and where they need them. The “Enterprise Imaging” view of Radiology links all PKUPH imaging facilities, including Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Pathology and Dental Imaging, ensuring that imaging performed at any part of imaging facilities to accessible in both campuses of PKUPH. Remote Diagnostic Radiology becamepractice in recent years, which supports radiology departments from different healthcare institutes thousand miles away.
Academic
Under the guidance of the superior physician, the doctor group conducted daily difficult cases discussion, the same technical group in the evaluation of photographic quality and photography technology discussion, under the guidance of superior technicians to ensure the provision of quality and accurate medical imaging results for the clinical and patient.
The Department of Radiology holds the National Difficult Cases Discussion of imaging classe.
