About Us
    Department of spinal surgery, Peking University People’s Hospital, was established on November 19th, 2001, which was one of the first several domestic spinal surgery departments at that time in China. For many years, we have provided high quality medical care, ensuring that patients could receive the professional treatments. As an international first-class spine surgery center, our aim is to minimize the neurologic complications.

   Over the last decade, we were in the national leading position in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal degenerative disease (e.g., spinal degenerative scoliosis, lumbar spinal stenosis, cervical spondylosis, etc.). At the same time, we were ahead in some minimally invasive surgeries, such as thoracic discectomy under video-assisted thoracoscopy, micro-endoscopy discectomy, etc. In consideration of the deficits of fusion surgeries, we have been working on the clinical research of non-fusion spinal surgeries over the last decade. The amount of interspinous process dynamic stabilization device implantation and anterior cervical three-level arthroplasty are in the first class in China. We did the first study to explore the relationship between lumbar diseases and lower limb joint diseases. Ten years of hard exploration made our department keep in the first class of domestic spine surgery departments because of large amount of operation, satisfactory therapeutic effects and low complication rates.

    Over the last decade, we paid great attention to the international communication and cooperation. We had numerous academic exchange projects with many famous authoritative institutions, organizations and experts of spine surgery from USA, Germany, Holland and Japan successively. We established the first domestic Chinese-German spinal surgery cooperation center with Hessing Klinikum from Germany.

    Over the last decade, we made a lot of scientific research funding application successfully, including natural science foundation of china, national key research and development project, and Beijing major disease research project. We have more than 60 clinical articles published in the international spine surgery authoritative magazine SPINE and other first-class domestic magazines. Moreover, we compiled and published several professional works, such as Spinal Internal Fixation, The Orthopedic Therapy of China, Atlas of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Practical Cervical Spine Surgery, Orthopedic Clinical Difficult Cases Discussion——Spine Surgery Volume. In addition, our academic leader, Chief LIU, is the editorial board member of many famous domestic magazines.

    Our chief, LIU Haiying, and our department have been reported several times by CCTV, BTV and Health News. Chief LIU was nominated by Chinese Physician Award and our chief nurse, HUANG Jie won the National “Female Pace Setter”  advanced individual prize.

    On our ten years anniversary, Beijing Haiying Spine Health Public Foundation was established, which was started by Professor LIU Haiying and other celebrities and companies from all over China. The aim of this foundation is to help the poor patients with spinal diseases and improve the physical quality and fitness of people! The establishment of Beijing Haiying Spine Health Public Foundation plays a key role for the long-term development of our department!

    American intra-operative Axon surveillance system was applied to prevent neurological injuries during surgery.

• Multilevel arthroplasty, open-door surgery and hybrid surgery for cervical spondylosis.
• Combine posterior pedicle screws implantation with interbody fusion to correct spine scoliosis.
