Stomatology Department of Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH)

    Established at the end of 1917 by Prof. Yu Jiazhen, Stomatology Dept. has nowadays developed to a large-scale division with 35 doctors, 20 nurses, 3 technicians, 33 dental treatment units and 260-odd daily outpatient visits over the past ten decades. Concerning the human resources deployment, the said Dept. is composed of 16 people with senior professional titles, 15 with intermediate professional titles and 26 with master degrees. The major characteristic of the Stomatology Dept. amounts to the basically balanced development of all professions. Except the in-patient treatment programs, it covers all other sub-professions, such as oral rehabilitation, oral medicine, oral surgery, orthodontics, oral implantology, oral radiology, etc. Both the oral rehabilitation and oral medicine boast distinctive comparative advantages while the latter has been further dividedthird-grade subjects such as pulpodontia, periodontics, oral mucosa, pedodontics, etc. As a department under a general hospital, the Stomatology Dept. is making every endeavor to explore, based on its own features, the development path in the overlapping aspects among such specialized fields as respiratory disease, hematology, organ transplantation, etc. 

    In recent years, the Department has been conducting rigorous control over hospital infections and medical quality with appropriate hospital input of software and hardware, taking the lead in either its scalevarious medical indicators of the same industry. With an aim to developa dental medical center within a comprehensive hospital, the Department nowadays keeps carrying forward its profession specialization process and for the past few years, it has been striving to gradually change from the image of “exclusive medical treatment” to attaching equal importance to medical care and scientific research. The scientific research team now places high priority on the research of clinical stomatology, dental materials, etc. and has accumulated certain experience in the study of the dental materials in particular.
